Sales tax compliance
Sales tax is set by states and local jurisdictions, not by the federal government. Whether you must collect it depends on where you sell, what you sell and each state's rules; we check that and set up registration and filing.

How do you know where you must collect?
A physical presence such as an office, employees or inventory usually creates an obligation in that state. Since the 2018 Supreme Court decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair, states can also require remote sellers to collect once sales into the state pass a threshold, and those thresholds differ by state.
We compare your sales by state with current state rules and tell you in writing where registration is required and from what date.
What changes once you are registered?
You charge the correct rate on taxable sales, keep certificates for exempt customers, and file returns monthly, quarterly or annually as the state assigns. Rates can differ by county and city within the same state.
In the books, sales tax collected is tracked as a liability rather than income. In the first month we reconcile tax collected with your sales records to catch missing or duplicate entries.
